Barbara Manger collaborated with designer Janine smith to create the book Mary Nohl: Inside & Outside/ Biography of the Artist  which was recognized with the 2009 Derleth Book-length non-fiction award by the Council for Wisconsin Writers. The book also received two design awards from the Midwest Independent Publishers.
